Maria E. de Jesús

It’s with heavy hearts and with the joy of the promise of the resurrection that we share
the news of Maria E. de Jesús’ passing.

Maria E. de Jesús was born July 4 1935, in Toa Alta Puerto Rico to Ramon Rivera
Nieves, and Secundina Morales Rolón. Maria completed her high school in Toa Alta,
Puerto Rico 1in 1953. She then completed her bachelor’s in education at the University
of Puerto Rico. She earned her Master’s in Education at the College at Brockport, State
University of Brockport New York.

María was married to Reinaldo A. de Jesús Santiago on June 3, 1961. Theirs was a
beautiful love story that exemplified steadfastness. Maria gave birth to Abdiel and Mara
Liz.

The family migrated from Puerto Rico to Rochester New York in 1970. Maria taught first
grade for over thirty years. She also assumed the role of being a pastor’s wife when her
husband was called to serve the church.

Maria’s hobbies included sewing, acting, and writing. She taught Sunday school, trained
Sunday school teachers, wrote church curriculum, and was a worship leader throughout
her life. She wrote a children’s book of poetry and short stories called “Mi Cofrecito de
Amores.” She wrote hundreds of poems, plays, and short stories that spoke of her
commitment to Jesus Christ.

Maria is survived by her husband Reinaldo A. de Jesús Santiago, her son Abdiel de
Jesús (Elisa), her daughter Mara Liz Rivera (Carlos), and grandson Carlos “Lito.” She is
also survived by her sisters Laura Chevere, Rosa Maria Ortiz, Dolores Muñoz, and her
brother Jose Dolores Rivera. Maria was also survived by many nieces and nephews
who were impacted by her love.

Maria was loved by her faith family at Iglesia Palabra Viva. She leaves a legacy of faith
and service that reflected her love for God and others.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2019 from 5pm-7pm at Iglesia Palabra
Viva, 8001 Silver Star Road, Orlando, FL 32818. A service of worship celebrating her
love for God will immediately follow the visitation. The service will be led by Rev. Rafael
Ramos.

Es con dolor en el corazón, pero con el gozo de la promesa de la resurrección que
compartimos la partida de María E. de Jesús.

María E. de Jesús nació el 4 de julio del 1935, en Toa Puerto Rico al señor Ramon
Rivera Nieves y a la señora Secundina Morales Rolón. María completo la escuela
secundaria el Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. Después completo su bachillerato en educación en
la Universidad de Puerto Rico. También obtuvo su maestría de educación en el Colegio
de Brockport, Universidad del Estado de Nueva York.

María se unió en matrimonio a Reinaldo A. de Jesús Santiago el 3 de junio del 1961.
Su matrimonio fue una historia de amor que ejemplaba constancia. María tuvo dos
hijos, Abdiel y Mara Liz.

La familia migro a Rochester, Nueva York en el 1970. María enseño primer grado sobre
treinta años. También asumió el papel de ser la esposa de un pastor cuando su esposo
fue llamado al ministerio eclesiástico.

Como pasa tiempo María le gustaba coser, el arte dramático, y escribir. Ella enseño
escuela dominical, entreno maestros de escuela bíblica, escribió currículo para la
iglesia, fue presidenta del ministerio de jóvenes en su iglesia natal, y dirigió servicios de
adoración como líder de la iglesia durante toda su vida. María escribió un libro de
poemas e historias para niños llamado “Mi Cofrecito de Amores.” A demás escribió
cientos de poesías, dramas, y historias que hablaban de su compromiso a Jesucristo.
María es sobrevivida por su esposo Reinaldo A. de Jesús Santiago, su hijo Abdiel de
Jesús (Elisa), su hija Mara Liz Rivera (Carlos), y su nieto Carlos “Lito.” Ella también es
sobrevivida por sus hermanas Laura Chévere, Rosa María Ortiz, Dolores Muñoz, y su
hermano José Dolores Rivera. María fue sobrevivida por muchos sobrinos y sobrinas
que fueron impactados por su amor.

María fue amada por su comunidad de fe, la Iglesia Palabra Viva. Ella deja una
herencia de fe y servicio que refleja su amor a Dios y al ser humano.

La visitación será el viernes, 6 de septiembre, 2019 desde las 5:00 p.m. hasta las 7:00
p.m. en la Iglesia Palabra Viva, 8001 Silver Star Road, Orlando, FL 32818. El servicio
de adoración que celebrará su amor a Dios será dirigido por el Revdo. Rafael Ramos
después de la visitación.
