Condolence From: Gerhard Roth
Condolence: I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Colin. I give my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. I worked with him when he was at the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario and he was always a good friend. He was an excellent scientist and co-worker, and a kind and generous human being. I saw him twice after he moved to the US, and I knew he was very happy with Gary in Florida. I will miss him very much.

Dr. Gerhard Roth

Condolence: As a former student and colleague of Dr. Archibald, I am deeply saddened and I offer my sincerest condolences to his family.

Dr. Archibald was truly an inspiring professor and got me to enjoy programming courses. His quirky responses and jokes made the classroom environment friendly and inviting. Even though I was no longer his student, he still took the time to answer my questions about other classes and problems I was facing. Dr. Archibald was always willing to listen to me rant about random topics even though he was swamped with work, but he always enjoyed a good conversation.

I may not have been a close friend of his, but I am going to miss him. I know nothing can replace him, but I hope the wound can be healed and we can all relish on the good times we had with him.

Condolence: I am so saddened by our loss of Colin. He always worked towards the betterment of our students, our staff, and our college. I remember specifically when he spoke to me about the goal of achieving domestic partner benefits at Valencia and urged me on when I took up the cause. His contributions to our college are many, and his impact on us will live in our hearts forever.
God bless and rest in peace.
With gratitude and love,

Condolence: This is a very sad time to lose such a great professor. I took classes with him with no intent on learning programming at all and he showed me the things that can be done with programming that I am now working on more advanced languages. He was very passionate about his work and wanted to make sure his students were successful in the classroom, as well as beyond the classroom. He was a very caring individual.

We will miss his laughter and jokes that he did in the class to make the students more comfortable. We will especially miss the stories he was giving us about his youth in Canada growing up on a farm. It was great ice breakers to get all of us students calmed and relaxed before jumping into the programming work. He was such a good, caring professor that he was given recommendations to take his classes not only by the students, but by other professors as well. He will certainly be missed by many.

Condolence: I am so sorry and sad about the loss of such a good man. Colin had a heart of gold. He was one of the most kind and generous people I’ve ever known. He was such a calm and gentle person. I’m so glad Alex was able to see you last month. He’s going to miss Uncle Colin. My heart goes out to Gary as well as all of Colin’s other family and friends. The world has lost a good soul and a great teacher and friend.

Condolence: This tribute is very hard to write. I am still so angry at cancer for taking you from us all much too early. You had so much left to do - so many to teach, so many changes to make, so much more to give.

I will have to get past that and be forever grateful for the time that we had you. For me personally, it's been almost 18 years since the day you were on my hiring committee and chose me to be a member of your team. Coming from a hard-edged dog-eat-dog New York City software developer environment, I was so pleasantly shocked to receive such support and encouragement from you from day one. You were so supportive to anyone who wanted to try something new, stretch themselves, and reach for the stars. We were always there for each other, whenever one of us was frustrated with "the system" and how it held us or the students back. Who am I going to vent to now? I guess, still you... always you... and I'll close my eyes and see your slow Canadian nod of encouragement, validating my feelings. I wish you could still give suggestions and help me figure it all out like you always have... but I have to stand on my own and I will do that and be strong, for you. I miss you so much already. The world will never be the same. All we can do is continue the work you started, creating our bachelors degree and giving the students the best possible path to success. You were so very loved on this earth and you will be forever loved... by so many. The students, your family and friends... including me.
